Turkish Success in Cheese-Loving Netherlands: World’s Largest Cheese Factory

One of the many successes of Turkish-Dutch entrepreneurs is the entrepreneurship of Şerif Aktürk, owner of the world’s largest and most modern cheese (feta) factory. This achievement is not only recognized in the Netherlands, but also in Turkey.

In recent days, Aktürk welcomed a Turkish delegation consisting of Turkey’s top companies and factory owners, selected by the SME organization KOSGEB, which is part of the Turkish Ministry of Industry, Science, and Technology.

The Turkish award winners and factory owners, who together employ more than 200 people, said they were astonished by the success achieved by Turks in the Netherlands. Dutch guests of Aktürk remarked during the guided tours that they had “never seen such a modern factory in their lives.”

Aktürk’s automated factory produces soft white cheeses for more than twenty brands. While feta cheese is well known in the Balkans and Turkey, thirty percent of Aktürk’s soft white cheese is consumed by Europeans.

The Turkish-Dutch businessman does not limit himself to cheese: he also owns a factory where he produces tomato paste, with a daily capacity of 250 tons.

Turkish-Dutch Entrepreneurs

Chairpersons of business associations report that it is time to highlight the successful economic contribution of Turkish-Dutch entrepreneurs. The figures speak for themselves: there are more than 25,000 Turkish-Dutch businesses in the Netherlands, generating an annual turnover of €6 to €7 billion. Turkish-Dutch entrepreneurs provide 67,000 jobs and have invested more than €5 billion in the Netherlands.

“The success of Turks in the Netherlands deserves to be heard as well. The days of being guest workers are over,” said Hikmet Gürcüoğlu, chairman of the Turkish-Dutch business association HOTIAD.
